CHARISMA! & SHEAR DELIGHT BARBERSHOP
Don’t miss this afternoon of humor, rock-solid harmonies and quality barbershop music at the Stoughton Opera House.
Ladies First! Charisma! Will open the afternoon with their amazing 4-part barbershop harmony, a capella style that will certainly knock your socks off. Their goal is to bring some charm and chutzpah, or dare they say – “Charisma!” to the stage. Although they are part of the Sweet Adeline’s International and sing the traditional type of barbershop music, they also sing music from various genres such as gospel, swing, and be bop. All four are proud members of the award winning Yahara River Chorus.
Next the men will share what they got! The Shear Delight Quartet was originally formed in 1980. Through the years, the quartet has survived two basses, two baritones, numerous tenors and one lead. The quartet, as currently constituted, has been singing together since the Fall 1985. Shear Delight is proud to share their style of harmony and fun with audiences throughout the Midwest. Their repertoire, which includes sentimental favorites such as ‘Had to Be You’, ‘Shine on Harvest Moon’ and “The Chattanooga Choo Choo’, allows them to adapt to any audience, and their gregarious stage presence easily establishes a warm rapport with listeners. Their distinctive sound enables them to make new songs sound old, and old songs sound better. This popular quartet truly is a... Shear Delight.
Barbershop quartet music has been around for more than a century. Historians began tracing the roots of the music back to African American origins. The music gained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s and has attracted audiences since with its melodic blend of chords ever since.
